Tools for encouraging employees to seek mental health care

April 23, 2024

Mental health issues can have a major impact on daily life, affecting relationships, work performance and overall well-being. Too often, employees choose not to seek care when they feel symptoms are mild or moderate. Most aren’t aware that care can help them manage even minor symptoms, and many others avoid care due to the perceived stigma associated with mental health.

Yet finding the right provider can be challenging. Your Asuris health plan includes a comprehensive range of mental health solutions that are easy to access. Employees who have a primary care provider (PCP) should talk about their symptoms with their doctor first. You can also share our flyer (in English and Spanish). It briefly describes in-network providers that your employees can see with no referral.

Help inform your employees via email

It can be difficult to know what kind of support is needed and when. That’s why we’ve created a series of emails you can send employees. Each one highlights a different mental health provider in your network, along with steps employees can take if they’re unsure about seeking care. You can send them at one time during May—Mental Health Awareness Month—or throughout the year.

Care can help employees develop healthy coping strategies and prevent issues from becoming more severe. Promoting mental health care in your workplace can reduce the stigma associated with mental health issues and create a culture where mental health is considered just as important as physical health.
