Keeping up with routine recommended preventive care offers so many benefits to employees, their families and employers. Here are just a few:
- Preventive care can help detect and treat potential health concerns before they become major problems. Early detection and treatment help prevent the need for more costly procedures, prescription drugs, ER visits and hospitalizations.
- It improves overall health, reducing the risk of developing chronic diseases and need for long-term care.
- By identifying and managing health problems that may interfere with the ability to work, preventive care can help improve the productivity of your employees and your business.
Yet with all these advantages, there’s a good chance some of your employees haven’t begun using their preventive care benefits this year. You can help by encouraging them to visit our Understanding your preventive care benefits web page to learn more and sharing our preventive care brochure, available in English or Spanish, with them.
Having a primary care provider (PCP)—for managing overall health, staying up to date on preventive care, diagnosing and treating illnesses, and managing chronic conditions—is essential. More than a health care professional who conducts annual well-being exams, a PCP understand employees’ individual medical needs, helps them navigate to specialized treatment when needed, and helps coordinate care with other providers.
Providing integrated care is one example. Because mental health and physical health are so closely related, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends regular mental health screenings for both adults and children. Combining behavioral health care with primary care can make it easier to identify and address health problems, so we’re working with in-network primary care providers to integrate behavioral health into their routine primary care appointments.
Employees should sign in to their account on asuris.com or the Asuris app and click Find a provider under Find care to search for a PCP. Employees needing help finding a PCP or scheduling a screening, vaccination or other preventive care appointment can call Customer Service at the number on the back of their member ID card.
